Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon G Series Chips for Next-Gen Gaming Handhelds

The new processors promise significant performance gains and are set to power innovative devices from Ayaneo, OneXSugar, and Retroid Pocket.

Qualcomm announced three new Snapdragon G Series chips—G3 Gen 3, G2 Gen 2, and G1 Gen 2—designed for gaming handhelds at the Game Developers Conference 2025.
The flagship G3 Gen 3 chip offers 30% faster CPU performance and 28% faster GPU performance than its predecessor, supporting QHD+ displays at up to 144Hz and advanced graphics features like Unreal Engine 5's Lumen lighting.
The OneXSugar 1, a dual-screen foldable handheld with detachable components, and Ayaneo's Pocket S2 and Gaming Pad are among the devices confirmed to use the G3 Gen 3 chip, with launches expected between March and May 2025.
The mid-range G2 Gen 2 chip delivers a 2.3x CPU and 3.8x GPU performance boost over its predecessor, while the entry-level G1 Gen 2 targets cloud gaming and emulation, offering 80% faster CPU performance than its previous version.
Retroid Pocket's PR Classic, featuring the G1 Gen 2 chip, is designed for retro gaming with a Game Boy-inspired design, AMOLED display, and pre-orders beginning this month.
