King Charles III Confirms Historic Vatican Visit in April

The trip, contingent on Pope Francis' recovery, aims to strengthen interfaith ties and highlight UK-Italy relations during the 2025 Papal Jubilee.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla will visit the Vatican and Italy from April 7 to 10, pending Pope Francis' recovery from double pneumonia.
The visit includes a historic first for a British monarch: visiting the Papal Basilica of St. Paul’s Outside the Walls, a site linked to reconciliation and ecumenism.
The trip coincides with the 2025 Papal Jubilee, a Catholic Holy Year emphasizing forgiveness and reconciliation, as well as the couple’s 20th wedding anniversary.
In addition to meeting Pope Francis, the itinerary includes meetings with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and a joint flypast over Rome by UK and Italian air forces.
The visit will also commemorate the 80th anniversary of Ravenna’s liberation from Nazi occupation and spotlight support for flood-affected farmers in Emilia-Romagna.
