Overview

• King Charles III and Queen Camilla will visit the Vatican and Italy from April 7 to 10, pending Pope Francis' recovery from double pneumonia.
• The visit includes a historic first for a British monarch: visiting the Papal Basilica of St. Paul’s Outside the Walls, a site linked to reconciliation and ecumenism.
• The trip coincides with the 2025 Papal Jubilee, a Catholic Holy Year emphasizing forgiveness and reconciliation, as well as the couple’s 20th wedding anniversary.
• In addition to meeting Pope Francis, the itinerary includes meetings with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and a joint flypast over Rome by UK and Italian air forces.
• The visit will also commemorate the 80th anniversary of Ravenna’s liberation from Nazi occupation and spotlight support for flood-affected farmers in Emilia-Romagna.
