Illinois Teacher Charged with Sexually Assaulting 15-Year-Old Student During Tutoring Session

Christina Formella, a special education teacher, faces multiple charges after a student’s mother discovered evidence on his phone and reported it to police.

Christina Formella, 30, has been charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of criminal sexual assault.
The alleged assault occurred in December 2023 in a classroom at Downers Grove South High School before the school day started.
The case came to light in March 2025 when the student's mother reviewed his phone and reported the incident to authorities.
Formella was arrested during a traffic stop on March 16, 2025, and has since been released under conditions barring contact with minors and access to the school.
DuPage County Attorney Robert Berlin described the allegations as a serious abuse of authority and emphasized the need to protect students.
