Overview
- Assam CID’s Special Investigation Team served notices and continued searches, summoning manager Siddhartha Sharma, organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta and about a dozen others linked to the Singapore yacht trip, with some appearances set for October 6.
- Siddhartha Sharma said most of Garg’s roughly 38,000 recordings are owned by labels, detailed a 2021 Zubeen Garg Music LLP in which Garg held 60%, affirmed IPRS royalties go to Garg’s account now due to his wife Garima, and rejected claims of exploitation while pledging cooperation.
- Prominent artistes filed an FIR at the CID alleging negligence, abetment and financial irregularities against Mahanta, Sharma, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, Tanmoy Phukan and others, citing conduct during the Singapore outing and invoking provisions for offences committed abroad.
- Protests in Guwahati led to detentions and injuries after clashes near Sharma’s residence, as the artiste fraternity sought the release of musician Ajay Phukan and student groups held candlelight marches urging a swift, impartial inquiry.
- Gauhati University will rename its Centre for Performing Arts and Culture after Garg, install his statue, publish a coffee table book and add a dedicated song category, while the Asom Sahitya Sabha plans to publish his complete works by 2026 and has requested a Bharat Ratna, with AGP pushing for a central probe.
