Zubeen Garg Case: Family Files CID Complaint as Assam Widens Probe, Sets Oct. 6 Deadline

A separate case now targets suspected forgery and money laundering by the festival organiser, following raids that recovered multiple PAN cards and dozens of stamp seals.

  • Garg’s wife, sister and uncle submitted a complaint to the Assam CID naming organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta and manager Siddharth Sharma and seeking questioning of everyone present during the Singapore yacht outing.
  • The SIT visited Garg’s Guwahati home to record family statements, while actor Nishita Goswami, musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta were summoned for questioning after earlier raids and seizures.
  • Assam CID registered a separate financial-crimes case against Mahanta based on seized materials including multiple PAN cards tied to one firm, around 28 stamp seals and records indicating possible benami assets.
  • Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said lookout notices have been issued for Mahanta and Sharma, their bank accounts have been frozen and both must appear before the CID by October 6 or face further action, with police coordinating with INTERPOL.
  • Investigators cite a Singapore death certificate listing drowning; an additional autopsy was conducted in Guwahati and viscera samples are with CFSL Delhi, with reports awaited.
