Zoox Opens Free Driverless Robotaxi Service on the Las Vegas Strip

The Amazon unit is piloting purpose‑built shuttles pending approval to charge fares.

Overview

  • Rides are limited to designated pickup and drop-off zones at resorts such as Resorts World, AREA15, New York-New York, Luxor and Topgolf on and around the Strip.
  • Zoox has deployed roughly 50 robotaxis across Las Vegas and San Francisco with most in Nevada, and vehicles run autonomously with remote human assistance available when requested by the system.
  • The purpose-built shuttles have no steering wheel or pedals, seat four passengers on inward-facing benches and typically operate at speeds up to 45 mph.
  • Fares are not being collected while Zoox awaits state and other regulatory approvals, and the company is building a waitlist for a planned San Francisco rollout with additional cities targeted thereafter.
  • A recent NHTSA exemption cleared demonstration use of Zoox’s steering‑wheel‑free vehicles and limits annual production, as the company scales manufacturing at its Hayward, California facility with ambitions to ramp output.
