Overview

  • New York City Board of Elections is set to publish Tuesday’s initial ranked-choice results to see if Mamdani secures an outright majority.
  • Mamdani led June 24’s Democratic primary with 43.5% of first-choice votes and declared victory after Andrew Cuomo conceded.
  • A cross-endorsement pact with Comptroller Brad Lander and an informal agreement among other candidates to exclude Cuomo bolster Mamdani’s chances.
  • Officials will add late-arriving mail ballots before certifying the result on July 15 but say those are unlikely to overturn his lead.
  • If confirmed, the 33-year-old democratic socialist would become New York City’s first Muslim mayor and its first of Indian American descent.
