Zoho’s Arattai Soars to No. 1 as Vembu Pushes UPI-Style Interoperability

A 100x signup spike has forced emergency scaling, with talks under way to publish open messaging protocols through iSpirt.

Overview

  • Daily sign-ups jumped from roughly 3,000 to about 350,000 in three days, lifting the app to the top of social networking charts on major app stores.
  • Sridhar Vembu said Zoho has begun discussions with iSpirt’s Sharad Sharma to standardize Arattai’s protocols for open, UPI-like interoperability, asserting the company does not seek a monopoly.
  • Zoho engineers are expanding capacity on an emergency basis after users reported delayed OTPs, slower contact sync and occasional lag during onboarding.
  • End-to-end encryption is currently applied to calls, and reports say chat encryption remains under development.
  • The surge arrived months ahead of a planned November feature and marketing rollout, helped by public endorsements including Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
