Zoho Seeks Public Input as Arattai Prepares End-to-End Encryption Rollout

Zoho is weighing default encryption against per-chat toggles to balance privacy with features like cloud backups.

Overview

  • Founder Sridhar Vembu asked users on X how to launch E2EE and shared screenshots of a new e2ee settings tab for one-to-one chats.
  • One option would let users enable encryption per conversation or set it as their personal default, with automatic activation if either participant turns it on.
  • A second option would make E2EE the default for all private chats, which Vembu said could be cheaper for Zoho to operate.
  • Encryption will debut for one-to-one chats with group chat protection planned afterward, and the company has not announced a release date.
  • Once implemented, the feature would align Arattai with services like Signal and WhatsApp where only chat participants can read messages.
