Overview

  • On May 20, volunteers found Frodo and Sam zip-tied together under a shopping cart at a PetSmart in Riverside County and rushed them to the Helen Woodward Animal Center.
  • Medical staff determined the orange tabby brothers were under five days old with umbilical cords attached and had suffered severe injuries, including a mutilated rear leg on Frodo.
  • Dr. Alexis Siler said Frodo’s leg has healed so successfully that an amputation may no longer be necessary.
  • One month after their rescue, the kittens are thriving in foster care, showing strong weight gain, voracious appetites and lively energy.
  • Investigators have hit a roadblock after security footage proved inconclusive, and the kittens will be available for adoption once they reach eight weeks of age and two pounds.
