Zimapán Release Halts Acueducto II, Rotating Cuts Hit 336 Colonias in Querétaro

Rotations could extend depending on rainfall, with water trucks now supplying priority sites.

Overview

  • The CEA suspended Acueducto II on Sept. 5 during the controlled release from the Zimapán reservoir to avoid pump damage and contamination from high turbidity and debris.
  • Authorities estimate roughly 900,000 beneficiaries will face intermittent service, with 215 colonias on one-day-on/one-day-off schedules and 121 on one-day-on/two-days-off.
  • Up to 100 pipas are being deployed and wells are being activated to support affected areas, while the capital government prioritizes schools, hospitals, asylums and markets.
  • State and municipal Protección Civil maintain a permanent monitoring camp and a temporary refuge in La Mora, reporting three homes and one business affected in Cadereyta and warning of possible road isolation for La Mora and Vega de Ramírez.
  • Conagua and CFE opened Zimapán’s gates after the reservoir reached full capacity, and officials say service rotations will last at least three days with the duration tied to continued rains and reservoir management.
