Zhou Guanyu Returns to Ferrari as Reserve Driver for 2025 F1 Season

The first Chinese F1 driver will back up Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton after losing his Sauber seat.

Zhou Guanyu, China's first Formula 1 driver, has been named one of Ferrari's reserve drivers for the 2025 season alongside Antonio Giovinazzi.
Zhou's appointment follows his departure from Sauber, which refreshed its lineup for 2025, replacing him with Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto.
This marks a return to Ferrari for Zhou, who was part of the team's driver academy from 2015 to 2018, with the team calling it 'something of a homecoming.'
Ferrari's reserve role became available after Oliver Bearman, who served as a stand-in last year, secured a full-time race seat with Haas for 2025.
Zhou also maintains ties to the upcoming Cadillac-backed Formula 1 team set to debut in 2026, which will initially use Ferrari engines.
