Zellers Brand Reboots With Edmonton Store Opening Today

The relaunch follows an August transfer of the Zellers trademarks to Les Ailes de la Mode linked to retailer Isaac Benitah.

Overview

  • Federal trademark records show Hudson’s Bay transferred the Zellers name and logo to Les Ailes de la Mode on Aug. 6, with filings identifying Isaac Benitah as representative.
  • A roughly 60,000-square-foot location at Edmonton’s Londonderry Mall opens with a soft launch Friday in the former Hudson’s Bay space, which the landlord calls the first new Zellers since the brand sale.
  • Landlord Leyad’s CEO Henry Zavriyev says the store will start with home goods and apparel for men, women and children, with a phased rollout to follow.
  • Court and company filings indicate Canadian Tire bought other HBC intellectual property, including the Bay name, stripes motif and the Zellers “lowest price is the law” slogan, but not the Zellers name or logo.
  • Les Ailes de la Mode and Hudson’s Bay have not responded to requests for comment, leaving operator details and any expansion plans unconfirmed.
