Zelensky Showcases 'Long Neptune' as Ukraine Reports Strikes Reaching Novorossiysk and Saratov

Kyiv is turning to a domestically built Neptune variant to extend its reach after failing to obtain U.S. Tomahawk cruise missiles.

Overview

  • President Volodymyr Zelensky posted video he said shows the Long Neptune cruise missile, which he claims can reach up to about 1,000 kilometers, in action against Russia.
  • Ukraine’s General Staff said Neptune missiles and attack drones struck the Russian naval base at Novorossiysk, damaging port infrastructure, the Sheskharis oil terminal, an S-400 launcher, and a missile storage site.
  • The General Staff also reported strikes on the Saratov Oil Refinery and a fuel storage facility near Engels, with explosions and fires noted and damage assessments ongoing.
  • Zelensky said Ukraine is increasing production of the new missile, describing growing long-range and precision capabilities as essential to the war effort.
  • The Long Neptune is a domestically produced adaptation of the R-360 Neptune anti-ship missile, and the latest battlefield claims come from Ukrainian authorities without independent verification so far.
