• In New York, President Volodymyr Zelensky met IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva to discuss a new extended financing program and presented proposals to channel frozen Russian assets to Ukraine.
• He stressed that Russia is not taking steps toward peace, said Ukraine requires sustained partner funding to defend itself, and cited recent Russian violations of NATO airspace as a warning that a firm response is needed.
• On Tuesday he is set to meet the U.S. president and co-chair a leaders’ summit of the Coalition for the Return of Children abducted by Russia with Canada’s prime minister, with first ladies participating and more than 40 coalition members involved.
• On Wednesday he will address the UN General Assembly and take part in the Crimean Platform summit being held in New York.
• Zelensky also met Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to discuss countering the Russian church’s influence, protecting religious freedom, and the church’s development in Ukraine.
