Overview

• From November 18, 2025, ZDF, ZDFinfo, ZDFneo, 3sat and KiKA will be carried via satellite only in HD.
• ARD completed its SD shutdown earlier in 2025, and partner channels Arte and Phoenix ended SD in November 2022.
• Major cable providers including Vodafone and Pyur plan to remove remaining public-service SD feeds this year.
• Households with SD-only equipment will need an HD-capable TV or an external receiver to continue receiving public channels.
• Industry data counted about 2.7 million SD-only TV households in 2023, while major private broadcasters remain available in SD for now.
