Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant Says It Can Maintain Stable Power Without Reserve Line as Restart Plan Advances

Rosatom’s phased commissioning plan is under government review pending the removal of military threats.

Overview

  • ZNPP’s director says the facility can ensure external power for its own needs without restoring the Ferrosplavnaya-1 330 kV reserve line, which has been offline since May 7.
  • The plant currently relies on a single 750 kV Dneprovskaya line for internal needs, and a July 4 outage forced a temporary switch to diesel generators until grid power was restored.
  • All six reactors remain in cold shutdown and are not generating electricity.
  • Plant management reports progress on a potential return-to-generation plan that targets power-supply resilience, cooling-water availability, hydrotechnical work, staffing and licensing.
  • A Sept. 19 drone strike hit a training center during a planned IAEA visit, prompting an evacuation of experts; Russian-installed operators reported nearby artillery impacts, and radiation levels were described as normal.
