Overview

  • Starkey wrote on Instagram that Daltrey told him he had been “retired” to work on his own music rather than fired, ending weeks of public confusion over his status.
  • He spent eight weeks in his Jamaica studio recovering from a January blood clot and completing work for Mantra of the Cosmos’s debut single, due in early June.
  • On May 18, Pete Townshend confirmed the lineup change and welcomed Scott Devours—veteran of Daltrey’s solo band—as drummer for The Who’s farewell North American tour beginning in August.
  • Starkey said he remains on good terms with Daltrey and Townshend and is open to offers to rejoin The Who in the future.
  • In a BBC Breakfast interview, he admitted he was “gutted” not to join Oasis’s reunion tour but expressed respect for the Gallagher brothers’ decision.
