Overview
- Chennai Super Kings confirmed Zaheer Khan as their head coach for IPL 2027 following Stephen Fleming’s long tenure.
- Zaheer publicly said the appointment was straightforward and credited MS Dhoni and the club’s leadership for checking his availability and backing his hire.
- He arrives with IPL experience in backroom and mentoring roles at Mumbai Indians and Lucknow but has limited prior experience as a full-time head coach.
- The franchise has asked Zaheer to shape retention decisions, lead the support staff, and prepare a strategy for the December mini-auction in Goa.
- The move aims for a short-term rebuild to reverse CSK’s recent decline while preserving the team’s established culture and the legacy built under Fleming.
