Zack Snyder Shares Unseen Test Photos of Henry Cavill in Christopher Reeve’s Superman Suit

Snyder says the images helped sell Cavill to Warner Bros., with DC’s new continuity now led by David Corenswet.

Overview

  • Snyder posted a Dec. 25 Instagram photo of Cavill wearing Reeve’s 1978 Superman costume, captioning it, “Henry Cavill. The original Superman suit. This photo. It was undeniable.”
  • He followed with a closer shot the next day, writing that when they showed Warner Bros., “everyone agreed: Henry Cavill was Superman.”
  • People cites Variety reporting that these test images were the visuals Snyder used when pitching Cavill for Man of Steel.
  • Cavill went on to play the role in Man of Steel, Batman v. Superman, and Justice League, plus a Black Adam cameo, with the three films earning more than $2.2 billion worldwide.
  • DC’s reboot is underway with James Gunn’s Superman starring David Corenswet released in July, and a sequel titled Man of Tomorrow scheduled for July 9, 2027.
