Zach Ertz Not Activated for NFC Championship Game

Despite Shortage at Tight End, Lions Hold Ertz for Potential Super Bowl Appearance

Zach Ertz, who was signed to the Detroit Lions' practice squad last week, will not be activated for the NFC Championship game against the San Francisco 49ers.
The Lions are currently short-handed at the tight end position, with Brock Wright and James Mitchell on injured reserve and Sam LaPorta playing through a knee injury.
Ertz, a 12-year veteran and former Arizona Cardinals tight end, had hoped to play in the championship game after signing with the Lions, a contender for the Super Bowl.
Ertz ranks eighth all-time among NFL tight ends in career catches and 12th in total receiving yards.
If the Lions defeat the 49ers, they could choose to activate Ertz for the Super Bowl.
