Yusef Salaam, Exonerated from Central Park Jogger Case, Set to Win NYC City Council Seat

Yusef Salaam, one of the Central Park Five, is leading in the race for New York City Council after the Democratic primary.
With about 95% of votes counted, Salaam has a little less than 51% of the vote.
If Salaam wins the primary and general election, he will represent the 9th District in the City Council, which includes the part of East Harlem where he grew up.
The Central Park Five were wrongfully convicted of raping a woman in Central Park in 1989 and later exonerated.
Salaam campaigned on housing justice, economic advancement, and police reform based on his experience in the criminal justice system.
