Yuga Labs Moves ApeChain From LayerZero to Chainlink CCIP

The company says the shift will standardize APE, USDC, other assets as Chainlink Cross‑Chain Tokens to reduce bridging risk.

Overview

  • Chainlink and ApeCoin announced on Nov. 4 that ApeChain will deprecate its LayerZero cross‑chain stack and adopt Chainlink’s Cross‑Chain Interoperability Protocol as the canonical bridge for the Yuga Labs ecosystem.
  • APE, USDC and other key tokens will be upgraded to Chainlink Cross‑Chain Tokens, a standard that registers tokens for CCIP transfers and centralizes token administration and pool settings.
  • The move replaces ApeChain’s previous use of LayerZero’s Omnichain Fungible Token framework and follows a security shift after a April 2026 LayerZero‑linked exploit and wider migrations that moved billions to CCIP by mid‑2026.
  • Public notices did not include a migration timetable, legacy shutdown date, holder swap instructions, or an ApeChain fee schedule, leaving practical steps for users and developers unclear.
  • If implemented as described, the change should reduce fragmented wrapped tokens and make integrations easier for dApps and aggregators, but the user impact will hinge on undisclosed choices about transfer mechanisms, pools and fees.
