Overview

  • Darvish has recovered from right elbow inflammation and will return Monday night to start the Padres’ series opener against the Diamondbacks at Petco Park.
  • He completed three simulated games—including a four-inning, 64-pitch outing—and a bullpen session to meet all rehab requirements.
  • Manager Mike Shildt announced a workload cap of roughly 75 pitches and four to five innings for Darvish’s first outing.
  • The timing allows Darvish to make a second start before the All-Star break and gradually ease back into a regular rotation role.
  • Darvish will face Diamondbacks right-hander Zac Gallen, who holds a 6-9 record and a 5.45 ERA, in tonight’s matchup.
