Overview
- On June 3, YouTube released version 20.22.1 of its iOS and iPadOS app, raising the minimum requirement to iOS 16 or later
- Devices unable to upgrade beyond iOS 15—namely iPhone 6s/6s Plus, iPhone 7/7 Plus, the first-generation iPhone SE and seventh-gen iPod touch—are now unsupported
- The update also removes compatibility for iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4, which cannot run iPadOS 16
- Owners of unsupported hardware can continue using their existing app versions until support is fully revoked or switch to m.youtube.com for a limited browser experience
- The timing precedes WWDC 2025 where Apple is expected to detail iOS 26’s device lineup, potentially extending support back to iPhone XR, XS and XS Max
