YouTube Tops July TV Viewing at 13.4% for Sixth Straight Month

Nielsen’s July Gauge shows streaming near half of TV use, marking YouTube’s widest lead since company-level tracking began.

Overview

  • Streaming accounted for 47.3% of total TV viewing in July, according to Nielsen’s Media Distributor Gauge.
  • Disney placed second with 9.4% of TV use, followed by Netflix at 8.8%, NBCUniversal at 7.6%, and Paramount Global at 7.0%.
  • Netflix posted the largest volume gain, adding 215,000 average-minute viewers and increasing across every demographic.
  • The Roku Channel recorded the biggest proportional lift, rising 7.5% month over month to a 2.8% share.
  • Nielsen’s reporting reflects only television-screen viewing, so services with sizable mobile audiences such as YouTube may have larger overall reach than the TV-only figures indicate.
