Overview
- YouTube is running limited experiments for paying subscribers that surfaced Thursday in app previews and coverage from Android-focused outlets.
- Auto-Speed appears in the playback speed menu and dynamically changes a video's pace to save time without hurting comprehension, with support limited to eligible videos.
- On-the-Go targets podcast-style viewing by showing large, simple controls and hiding comments, and it can switch on after about a minute of detected walking or be turned on in Settings under More > Premium controls.
- Auto-Speed is available on Android and iOS, while On-the-Go is labeled Android-only in YouTube’s description even though Android Authority also spotted it on iOS.
- Test access runs until April 27, and the features were found in the app’s experimental page rather than YouTube’s usual public experiments list, after which Google will review feedback for a possible wider rollout.
