Overview

  • Nearly 11,000 YouTube channels and related accounts were removed in the second quarter of 2025 for links to state-backed propaganda operations
  • Over 7,700 of the dismantled channels were linked to Chinese networks promoting the People’s Republic of China, President Xi Jinping and commentary on U.S. foreign affairs
  • More than 2,000 channels tied to Russian campaigns were taken down after distributing multilingual content supporting Russia and criticizing Ukraine, NATO and Western nations
  • The Q2 removals represent a slowdown from about 23,000 channels dismantled in Q1, bringing YouTube’s year-to-date total to roughly 34,000
  • Google’s report also detailed the removal of influence operations linked to Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey, Israel, Romania and Ghana that targeted political rivals
