- YouTube published new German Premium rates on its website, which now list the individual plan at €14.99 per month, the family plan at €27.99, the student plan at €8.99, Premium Lite at €7.99 and the annual plan at €149.99.
- The new prices apply immediately to new customers while existing subscribers will be emailed at least 30 days before a change and must confirm acceptance by clicking a link or their subscription will be cancelled at the next billing date.
- Premium Lite remains a reduced tier that does not include YouTube Music and may still show ads in music videos and Shorts while offering background play and the ability to download many videos.
- Separately, YouTube is expanding an in-app direct-messaging experiment to more countries, with access limited to adults who have verified Google accounts and personal YouTube channels, Brand Accounts barred, and messages subject to moderation checks for Community Guideline violations.
- The price hike is the first in Germany since 2023 and follows U.S. increases earlier this year, a change that could push some users to cancel or switch tiers and that YouTube says will help maintain investments in the service and payouts to creators; purchases through app stores may show different prices because of platform fees.
