Overview

• The Young Creek fire was discovered July 12 near Cathedral Provincial Park southwest of Keremeos and is believed to be human-caused.
• It has grown rapidly through parched forest understory and remains out of control in steep, rugged terrain.
• Evacuation alerts cover properties near Cathedral Provincial Park, including two campgrounds threatened by the advancing fire.
• About 34 firefighters supported by two helicopters are conducting ground and aerial suppression under an RDOS level-one EOC activation.
• Forecast mid-30°C temperatures followed by thunderstorms could intensify fire behavior and spark new ignition sources.
