Yogi Adityanath Lays Foundation Stones for Rs 941 Crore Overhaul at King George’s Medical University

Construction is set to begin on multi-storey specialty blocks supported by district college screening reforms designed to ease pressure on Lucknow’s tertiary hospitals.

Overview

  • Seven projects totalling Rs 941 crore were inaugurated or had foundation stones laid on July 14, covering cardiology, orthopaedics, trauma, general surgery and support facilities at KGMU.
  • The Rs 378 crore General Surgery block will feature robotic surgery units, 12 modular operation theatres, a 12-bed ICU and solar power systems, with completion expected in two years.
  • A Rs 273 crore Trauma-2 centre will add 500 trauma care beds, nine operation theatres, emergency infrastructure and a patient utility complex to expand critical care capacity.
  • The newly inaugurated Rs 105 crore cardiology wing brings 92 ICCU beds and two cath labs, while the Rs 86 crore orthopaedic centre offers 340 beds and specialised surgery units.
  • Administrative, diagnostic and accommodation blocks costing Rs 99.1 crore will consolidate labs and lodging, and upcoming plans for IIT Kanpur collaboration and district college screening aim to modernise and decentralise care.
