Overview
- The Cricket Advisory Committee confirmed the appointment on Wednesday, June 24, and named R. Srinivasan to assist with multi-day cricket and J. Hariesh to support the white-ball side.
- Yo Mahesh replaces M. Senthilnathan and M. Venkataramana, ending the split format-coach arrangement that TNCA used during the troubled 2025-26 season.
- Tamil Nadu missed the knockout stages of the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2025-26, a collective failure that prompted the coaching shake-up.
- Mahesh, 38, was promoted from the state U19 job after guiding the side to the Cooch Behar Trophy semi-finals and has said his priorities are culture change, clear player roles and integrating young players; reports say his contract is for six months but that detail is not fully confirmed.
- The appointment is part of a broader off-season restructure by the TNCA that also includes new women’s selection chairs and other mentoring moves, and it signals a push to stabilise the senior side and draw more on the state’s youth pipeline.
