Yellowstone Visitor Jailed for Trespassing Near Active Geyser

The 21-year-old man received a week-long sentence and a two-year ban for entering a dangerous, restricted area to take photos.

Viktor Pyshniuk was sentenced to seven days in jail for trespassing near Steamboat Geyser in Yellowstone National Park.
The incident was reported by a park employee who photographed Pyshniuk within 15-20 feet of the geyser's steam vent.
Pyshniuk claimed he left the boardwalk to take photos, despite signs warning against entering the thermal area.
In addition to jail time, Pyshniuk received a two-year ban from the park and was fined $1,550.
Officials emphasized the dangers of the area and the importance of deterring similar behavior to protect both visitors and natural resources.
