Yellow Heat Alerts Widen Across Argentina as Temperatures Near 40 °C

Health agencies urge hydration alongside adjusted routines to reduce heat-related illness.

Overview

  • Argentina’s weather service kept yellow alerts in place for extreme heat across the AMBA and parts of Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, Córdoba, Entre Ríos, La Pampa, Misiones, Mendoza and San Luis, with further expansion noted on Sunday.
  • Temperatures are expected to stay elevated with regional highs in the mid to upper 30s Celsius and some locations near 40 °C, with the heat wave forecast to peak around December 31.
  • The SMN also issued yellow alerts for storms in 13 provinces, warning of localized downpours, lightning, hail and wind gusts up to about 70 km/h that could complicate outdoor plans and travel.
  • Specialists advise modifying training by prioritizing technique over load, keeping to roughly two or three sessions per week, and scheduling activity in the early morning or evening to avoid the 10:00–16:00 window.
  • Doctors emphasize regular hydration before, during and after activity with small sips every 10–20 minutes, close monitoring of children, older adults and people with chronic illness, and urgent care for warning signs such as confusion, severe headache or loss of consciousness.
