Yellow Alerts Issued Across Argentina, Mexico and Spain for Storms, Heat and Cold

Officials urge precautions with hazardous conditions expected through the weekend.

Overview

  • Argentina’s national weather service placed multiple provinces under yellow storm alerts, with Buenos Aires forecast to see late‑evening and overnight thunderstorms bringing frequent lightning, possible hail, gusts over 75–80 km/h and 30–60 mm of rain.
  • Heat alerts were issued for northwest Argentina, where Jujuy, Salta, Tucumán and Santiago del Estero could reach about 40°C, while Mendoza renewed storm warnings for hail, strong gusts and 30–50 mm of localized rainfall.
  • Mexico’s cold front No. 16 is driving very low temperatures and strong Norte winds, with forecasts of −10°C in parts of Chihuahua and coastal waves of 2.5–3.5 meters in Oaxaca and Chiapas, as front No. 17 approaches.
  • Regional Mexican forecasts point to a colder, unsettled weekend, including rain and a marked cooldown in Nuevo León and minimums near 9°C in several Mexico City boroughs, with another front expected to reinforce the drop early next week.
  • Spain’s AEMET activated a yellow warning in Castellón for wind and coastal phenomena, signaled weak inland frosts and projected light rains returning by Sunday, with Córdoba turning wetter after a cold, sunny start to the weekend.
