Year-End Police Reviews Show Modest Crime Dip in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Stark District Swings and Big Cases Mark 2025

Officials credit technology-led policing for the modest gains.

Overview

  • Telangana reported 2,28,695 cases in 2025, down 2.33% from 2024, with murders, rapes, robberies, riots and kidnappings falling, NDPS cases rising, road accident cases increasing but fatalities decreasing, and 509 Maoist cadres surrendering.
  • Andhra Pradesh recorded a 6.17% decline to 1,03,397 cases, with most key categories down, economic offences up 4.78%, and year-end data noting drone deployments, large cyber-fraud complaint volumes, limited FIR conversion and funds blocked or refunded.
  • District trends diverged sharply as Guntur logged a 13% drop with higher convictions and major property recoveries, while Adilabad and Asifabad reported steep increases of 63% and 60% respectively led by spikes in thefts, cheating and other offences.
  • Pune city posted a 15% fall in murders to 79 and fewer attempt-to-murder cases, even as chain-snatching rose to 127 incidents, illegal firearms seizures climbed and non-fatal assaults remained a concern despite a slight dip.
  • Karnataka’s year featured the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede that killed 11 with the police commissioner suspended during inquiries, a ₹7.11 crore cash-van heist solved with nine arrests and nearly full recovery, and NDPS seizures valued at about ₹160 crore.
