Overview
- Both clubs announced on Sept. 17 that outfielder Marshall Toole is the player to be named later heading from New York to Tampa Bay, finalizing the July deal.
- Across 113 Single-A games since last year’s draft, Toole posted a .298/.413/.462 line with a 15.2% walk rate, a 20.6% strikeout rate, and 52 steals in 60 attempts.
- Toole was not on the Yankees’ 40-man roster, so the Rays do not need a corresponding move, and he is not Rule 5 eligible until December 2027.
- Evaluations highlight his speed and on-base skills but note age-for-level concerns, a high BABIP, limited power, and that he is not a current top-30 organizational prospect.
- The move completes the trade that sent José Caballero to the Yankees for Everson Pereira and a PTBNL; Caballero has since emerged as a regular at shortstop in New York.
