Yankees’ Jazz Chisholm Jr. Returns Late After Forearm HBP, Tests Negative Ahead of Postseason

The 30–30 second baseman is expected to be available after swelling subsides.

Overview

  • Chisholm was struck on the left forearm by a 96.8–97 mph sinker from Orioles left-hander Grant Wolfram in the fifth inning Saturday and initially exited.
  • Imaging at Yankee Stadium and afterward showed no fracture, with both X-rays and a CT scan returning negative results.
  • Chisholm reported soreness and swelling, and he was held out of the Yankees’ Game 162 starting lineup as a precaution.
  • He later pinch-hit in the seventh inning Sunday and finished the game in the field, with both Aaron Boone and Chisholm indicating he should be good to go.
  • José Caballero started at second base Sunday, as the Yankees chased the AL East title needing a win and a Blue Jays loss; otherwise they open a home Wild Card series Tuesday.
