Yankees Bring Back Old-Timers’ Day Game to Honor 2000 Champions

The exhibition returns after pandemic-driven cancellations with a record 38 former players set to take the field.

Overview

  • The Yankees will hold a two- to three-inning baseball game at Yankee Stadium on August 9 to mark the 25th anniversary of the 2000 World Series champions.
  • Thirty-eight alumni, including first-time participants Roger Clemens, David Justice, Alfonso Soriano and José Vizcaino, are slated to play in the exhibition.
  • Derek Jeter has opted out to celebrate a family birthday and Alex Rodriguez is not expected to attend this year’s event.
  • Player introductions will begin at noon Eastern with Michael Kay reading bios before the Old-Timers take the field.
  • The hardball contest follows cancellations in 2020–21 and three years of ceremonies and Q&A sessions instead of a game.
