Overview

  • As of 7 p.m. on August 17 at the Old Railway Bridge, the Yamuna’s level stood at 204.60 m, just above the 204.50 m warning mark.
  • The Flood Control Department projects the river will exceed the 206.00 m evacuation point by around 2 a.m. on August 19, prompting formal evacuation protocols.
  • Hathnikund Barrage is releasing over 127,000 cusecs—the season’s highest rate—and Wazirabad is discharging about 45,600 cusecs, with flows taking 48–50 hours to reach Delhi.
  • Local flooding and an embankment breach in Haryana’s Yamunanagar district have been reported after heavy rain in the upper catchment, heightening downstream risk.
  • Delhi and national disaster agencies, including the NDMA and NDRF, have been placed on high alert to coordinate evacuations and relief efforts for vulnerable areas.
