Overview
- A device believed to be a smartphone or mobile battery caught fire at 4:10 pm on a Yamanote Line inner-loop train between Shin-Okubo and Shinjuku.
- Emergency braking led some passengers to evacuate onto the tracks, resulting in two minor injuries.
- JR East suspended both inner and outer loops of the Yamanote Line and halted Chuo rapid, Chuo-Sobu local and Shonan-Shinjuku services through the affected section.
- After confirming no passengers remained on the tracks, JR East resumed Chuo rapid, Chuo-Sobu and Shonan-Shinjuku operations around 4:50 pm.
- Yamanote service remains suspended into the evening as the Shinjuku Police Station and Tokyo Fire Department investigate the incident.
