Yaga Trailer Debuts as AMC+ Sets October 23 U.S. Premiere

TIFF exposure and the new trailer build buzz for a steamy, feminist reworking of the Baba Yaga folktale

Overview

  • AMC+ released the official trailer Friday, and the streamer will launch Yaga in the U.S. on October 23 with a two-episode premiere followed by weekly episodes and a two-episode finale on November 27.
  • The eight-episode mystery thriller follows private investigator Rapp, played by Noah Reid, who arrives in the coastal town of Whittock to probe the disappearance of heir Henry Park and encounters secret lives and signs of ancient magic.
  • Creator Kat Sandler adapted her 2019 stage play for television and serves as showrunner and writer, with David Frazee and Rachel Talalay credited as co-directors and production led by Blink49 Studios, Front Street Pictures and Bell Media.
  • Marketing frames the series as a ‘feminist revenge–tinged’ adult drama with provocative, sexualized elements and uses Alanis Morissette’s cover of “Season of the Witch” in the trailer to underline its menacing tone.
  • The series premiered at TIFF to generate international interest, was acquired for AMC+ in the U.S. by AMC Global and is set to roll out in other markets including a reported Sky/NOW release in the U.K. on October 31.
