Overview
- On August 5, the Dirección Xeral de Calidade Ambiental e Sostibilidade granted the Autorización Ambiental Integrada after reviewing over half a dozen departmental reports and a favorable May Declaración de Impacto Ambiental.
- With this approval, the project file moves to the Consellería de Economía e Industria, which must issue the final authorization and enforce environmental conditions.
- Ence plans to build the plant on the former As Pontes coal power site to produce about 100,000 tonnes per year of bleached pulp from recycled paper and cardboard.
- The facility will be Europe’s first to use totally chlorine-free (TCF) bleaching on recycled fiber and will run exclusively on renewable energy generated from local forestry byproducts.
- Parallel to construction preparations, Ence will launch its Regatex pilot in partnership with Swedish startup Sharetex to recycle polycotton textiles into cellulose.
