Overview
- The Xunta formalized a €14 million allocation for Galician-language policies in the 2027 regional budget, José López Campos announced Saturday as part of the Plan Xeral da Normalización da Lingua.
- The government will expand introductory Galician courses for foreign residents from 100 to 150 sessions with the stated goal of reaching more than 2,000 people, and will again involve local councils and NGOs such as Cáritas and Cruz Roja in delivery.
- A new line of sports grants worth €300,000 is reserved to increase Galician use in clubs, federations and youth activities so that language practice extends beyond schools into everyday social and sporting life.
- The administration has earmarked €150,000 to develop a business recognition seal that will follow strict criteria and offer incentives like inclusion in a public directory and priority access to training; the seal proposal is in public consultation until October 30 and will proceed toward a decree later this year.
- The measures build on a first edition that ran 100 courses with about 1,500 participants from up to 39 nationalities, and they are intended to boost social use and prestige of Galician while creating practical incentives for companies and community groups to adopt the language.
