Xtravaganza Musical on José Xtravaganza Sets Invited NYC Workshop With Baltimore Center Stage

The piece centers José Xtravaganza's role in shaping voguing through the lens of New York's 1980s–1990s ballroom scene.

Overview

  • The creative team includes a book by R. Eric Thomas, music and lyrics by Khiyon Hursey, and direction by Tony nominee Stevie Walker-Webb.
  • Choreography is by Kyle Abraham with Bill Sherman as music supervisor, Patrick B. Phillips as music director-conductor, and music producers Matthew Campfield and Daniel Klein.
  • Producers Isabel Kallman, Laura Mayes, Craig Kallman, and Kurt Deutsch are leading the invited workshop in association with Baltimore Center Stage.
  • The workshop is planned for Gibney Studios at 890 Broadway, where José trained in ballet, with timing to be announced, and Bespoke Theatricals serving as general manager.
  • A workshop company drawn in part from the Ball community includes members of the House of Xtravaganza, the Iconic House of Miyake-Mugler, Haus of Telfar, the International House of Unbothered Cartier, and the Iconic House of Juicy Couture.
