XPeng Reboots Australian Push With Five New Models and Humanoid Robots

The company plans to sell cars, autonomous driving software and the IRON humanoid in Australia as part of a wider shift to overseas markets to ease pressure from a cooling China market.

Overview

  • At its Melbourne relaunch this week, which took place Tuesday, XPeng committed to launching five new-generation vehicles in Australia within six months and called the country its “southern hemisphere home”.
  • XPeng said it is targeting a local introduction of XNGP, its Level 2+ intelligent driving system, before the end of next year subject to regulatory approval and mapping work.
  • The company confirmed plans to bring an 800-volt ultra-fast charging ecosystem to Australia and to run a vehicle-to-grid pilot, with partner talks already under way for both programs.
  • XPeng expects to begin production of its IRON humanoid robot by the end of this year at several hundred units per month with targets to scale to about 1,000 monthly and several thousand by late 2027, and is training robots for showroom tasks.
  • Despite the promises, XPeng remains a minor seller in Australia — reporting 24 cars sold in June — and must resolve past distributor disputes, secure local partners and meet regulatory hurdles before its technical rollout can translate into sustained local sales.
