Overview
- Xiaomi announced on Monday that HyperOS 3 adds AirDrop compatibility to Android’s Quick Share and published a short video showing a file moved from a Xiaomi 17T Pro to an iPhone.
- The feature enables Xiaomi phones to send photos and documents directly to iPhones, iPads and other Apple devices using Apple’s AirDrop protocol.
- Native Quick Share–AirDrop transfers require low‑level wireless support in a device’s chipset, so Xiaomi said only compatible, usually newer or flagship, models will receive the update and it did not publish a device‑by‑device timetable.
- Phones that lack native support will use a cloud/QR fallback to create temporary transfer links, and current handshakes also require the iPhone user to set AirDrop visibility to “Everyone for 10 minutes” to complete the connection.
- Google has confirmed expansion of Quick Share’s AirDrop compatibility to partners including OPPO, OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi and HONOR through 2026, which should cut the need for third‑party cross‑platform file apps and make direct sharing between Android and iOS more common.
