Xevious 3D/G Arcade ROM Returns to Modern Consoles on September 24

The Arcade Archives 2 release brings the original arcade ROM to current hardware with Time Attack, VRR support and online leaderboards to serve preservation-minded players and score chasers.

Overview

  • Hamster announced on Wednesday that Arcade Archives 2 Xevious 3D/G will release on Thursday, September 24, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2 priced at $16.99 (¥1,800).
  • This release is Arcade Archives 2–only, so it will not appear on PlayStation 4 or the original Nintendo Switch, and outlets report it is the first time the actual 1996 arcade ROM will be offered on home systems.
  • Arcade Archives 2 adds a new Time Attack Mode and supports VRR (variable refresh rate) while preserving features such as rewind, rapid-fire, multiple save slots and online rankings.
  • Xevious 3D/G first appeared in arcades in 1996 on Namco’s System 11 hardware and was notable as the series’ first polygonal entry; the game later had a 1997 PlayStation port but not the original arcade ROM until now.
  • The release continues Hamster’s push to bring Namco’s early polygonal arcade library to modern consoles and could pave the way for more System 11 titles to follow, while giving retro players and competitive scorers a more accurate home experience.
