XCharge NA Launches Solar-Plus-Storage Fast-Charging at Pendleton’s Arrowhead Travel Plaza, Billed as Oregon’s First

The installation pairs a solar canopy with battery-integrated chargers to curb peak demand and keep service running during outages.

Overview

  • Four dual-dispenser GridLink units with integrated 215 kWh batteries are paired with a 40 kW solar canopy, delivering up to 194 kW per charger.
  • The chargers support bidirectional power flows for grid services and can operate off-grid in emergencies, according to the company.
  • Located on the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation along Interstate 84, the site serves more than 1.7 million vehicles a year and supports drivers tackling the steep, weather-prone Cabbage Hill grade.
  • NetZero Energy is credited with identifying the opportunity and providing due diligence, system design, and project management to bring the project online.
  • XCharge North America says the Pendleton deployment extends its U.S. footprint to 18 states and features safety systems including thermal-runaway monitoring and pack-level fire suppression.
