- Inserting a supported Xbox One or Series X disc now offers an option to claim a digital license that lets you play without the disc and, where supported, use cloud streaming or Play Anywhere on PC.
- The digital license is tied to the physical disc rather than permanently to an account, so selling or lending the disc lets the new holder claim the license and revoke the original owner’s access.
- Publisher participation remains selective: Ubisoft and SEGA have recently joined and added titles, while major holdouts such as Square Enix and Bandai Namco still leave gaps in the catalogue.
- Because Microsoft has not published a full compatibility list, community databases report roughly 1,500 to 1,580 confirmed working titles, and users should keep discs until they confirm persistent digital access.
